Brian,
"Got a problem"
Bit of an understatement!

Going to be spending a bit of time getting your hands dirty I expect.

How is the other side?

I can think of a lot of better ways to spend a Sunday.

Best of luck with it.

I am guessing the wheel bearings are gone for one, but with the play on the axle shaft I am guessing the bearings in there are gone too (and probably the seals as a result). IIRC they are needle roller bearings.

How many k's you got on your truck Brian?

Do you have Windows Media Player. ?? Im assuming thats the problem.
Adrian. I have 225000 Kms. The drivers side bearing is toast. I could here some grinding while driving, thats what started the tear down. Im going to replace both sides and the needle bearings in the front diff. I cant seem to get the axle out at this stage. From what I read its a matter of hitting the back of the Uni joint but it aint working. Any ideas ??

what i think has happened is the vacuum seal has work it way through the housing towards the axle tube. Its a rock hard seal and wont push through because now its getting caught up on the inside lip of the housing.

You should be able topry the axle shaft out with a couple of big screw drivers on the lip like here:

225,000km is pretty early for them to fail. If you aren't planning on it already, I'd replace all the seals too, they get shot real quick after the bearings fail.

You only need the three seals , the axle seal FORD F81Z-3254-CB, SKF the big yellow one FORD F81Z 4A322AA and the axle dust seal FORD F81Z-1S175-HCA, plus you'll be fitting new needle roller bearings FORD C6TZ-3123-A , if you have auto hubs it may pay to re-new the o-rings on the auto hub assemblyFORD 4C3Z-1K106-AA.
