We are ripping out all the old rock wool and fiberglass batt insulation in the attic and replacing it with spray foam and dense pack cellulose. We are also spray foaming the basement foundation (200+ year old foundation made of fieldstone) to seal all the air leaks. Should cut air leakage in our house by over 50%. Should make a major difference in our heating bills and in home comfort.
We had a blower door audit to identify the areas with most potential and decided on these two areas as being the most cost effective.
Yeah, that should help significantly! Nasty work, can't blame you a bit for getting that hired out!
We demoed all the knee walls in the upstairs bed rooms and cleaned out the old insulation but I have no desire to go up into the crawlspace of an attic to vacuum out all the old, dirty rock wool and fiberglass. I'll leave that for the guys in Tyvek suits with respirators. And having no real experience with spray foam I am leaving that to the pros as well. They'll be done everything in a week where it would take me a month.
