When you release the key, does it return to the "run" position or does it stay in the "start" position?
Try this. Have someone try starting with the key. When they release the key, if it keeps cranking, pull the wire off of the "S" terminal. If it keeps cranking, the solenoid (even though new) is bad and sticking.

Replace your starter relay with this type: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post8972747
The lugs on the old relays can turn inside of it causing problems where it'll keep turning over and over. Or so I read on some forum somewhere when it happened to me. I tightened the posts too much causing it to rotate and wouldn't stop unless I pulled the battery cable :P
Oh wait, the symptoms are different. Check the I and S cables to be sure they aren't swapped

STOP. You need to figure it out and fix it before "upgrading" to a start button.
Let's begin with you providing some clear information......Does starter run (engage) immediately the first position of the ignition switch?
Yes or no?

This doesn't answer the question.
Does the key return to the "run" position when you release it?
If it does, does the starter continue to turn?
NEXT,
Do the test that I laid out.
Have someone else turn the key, if the starter continues to turn after they release the key, you disconnect the wire from the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid.
If it continues to turn over, replace the solenoid.
