Couple transmission questions.

Have has trani replaced couple years ago. Always has a lag before forward or reverse kicks in. Original trani never lagged to go into gear. Can't really find a answer. Also should front drive shaft be free to spin with your hands when in 2wd parked? Thanks for reading.

Front driveshaft will/should spin when T-Case is in 2wd as long as both front hubs are in the unlocked position.

As for the quality of your engagements....I find when diagnosing units with previous rebuilds and mushy engagements that it's usually caused by low baseline pressure due to a faulty EPC Solenoid (Electronic pressure Control Solenoid). Unfortunately the EPC solenoid solenoid pack needs to be replaced when this occurs.

But before you throw a solenoid pack on it, a proper diagnostic and pressure check must be performed.

The front hubs are most likely in the locked in position or are not unlocking like they should.

Ok. Just tried going through 4wd and 2wd. Both Hubs seem to be stuck in locked position. Can't turn the axles either. Will try cleaning and repacking with grease or buy new ones. Thanks again

Its usually just the vacuum actuators on the back of the hubs, not the hubs themselves.
