I am currently in search for a rearend for my 79 f150. for now i just want something to put in so i can drive it. i found an 82 LTD with a 8.8 rearend. would this be a decent rearend to use? and does it have the same bolt pattern as an f150? thanks guys

If you can't find a ford 9" or just want the 8.8 then you'll need one from an F150 or bronco for a simple swap.

The car axle has a different wheel lug pattern just to start off with. Too many differences IMO.

Should bolt right in, Spring perches are the same width im 95% sure. May run it some differences in yoke/ujoint sizes.

I think most 9" axles have a standard yoke. If you get a 8.8 with a flange style mount then you'll need the flange from the d-shaft too.

I'm not positive, but it should be a typical 1330 series u-joint for both axles...I have seen 1310's though on the 9".

i will just probably be patient and try to find a rear axle from my year range that matches my front axle. not sure what my front axle is though.
Until i can get to the pickup to find out whats for surely in it, what were the popular front axles that were used in a 79 f150 lariat 4x4 with an np205 t case and a 9" rearend?

8.8" introduced in 1983 F100/150 & Bronco, but the 9" was also available thru 1986.

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle wheels, some have 5 lug 4.50" bolt circle wheels.

You cannot use a Passenger Car rear axle in a truck.

your front axle should be a dana 44. i would be patient and find a good 9 inch. the 8.8 doesn't seem to have the strength the 9 inch does.

Thanks NumberDummy! quick question, all ford 9" rear ends have the carrier built into the cover that is facing the front of the vehicle right?

Yes, But so did 8" Fords. But I believe they were only installed in cars.
