2008 factory navigation in 2005

Will it work, I assume I need an external antenna. Is the navigation and/or Sirius built into the radio or are the separate modules from the head unit?

They were kits available online when I was looking into it for $2k. I decided to go aftermarket. Much better navigation(Garmin), with more options and half the cost.

IIRC, that price was for the radio, and everything needed to do have all the features work. Excluding, Sync and Bluetooth.

4dtech is working on a kit for what you want

its my understanding after a few months researching that putting the new style oem nav units in the older trucks (07 isn back) is not straight forward. the radios look some what similar but they won't interchange

4dtech is almost done with a product called harmony that will allow this
but i would wait to make sure they have the bugs worked out

i think though the old style nav and new style nav radios look somewhat similar there are a lot of differences. interface with steering wheel controls, external amps, and different pinouts.
the old nag units won't take aux video inputs with out modification, the nag systems are outdated and they are still expensive

the oem ticket will be to use and "adapter" to make the newer radios work in olders trucks, they you get aux inputs better nav and a lot more

these "adapters" will cost at least $350 and the radios another $1200 to $1500 i would say and will still need to be programed (and most likely not by a dealer but a ford radio specialist). if going this way you should get the whole package from one place in case of issues

i am on my 4 th oem radio in my 2006 trying to works this out with no success as of yet

have given up for now but may revisit when harmony adapter is finished

thanks

I would strongly advise you to look for an aftermarket radio with nav, Install will be straight forward, look and fit should be very good and cost will be less. I personally like the new Pioneer Nex line...

Ok I will just put my old pioneer d3 back in this truck. I like the factory navigation in my f150 platinum I just bought so this appealed to me. Especially since I can get It for 150 bucks.

Ok New development. I believe I am buying a new to me truck. Looking at a 09 cabellas f250 f250. Will thus be a direct drop in to that truck. The little bit of research I have seen it does not look like there is an external antenna for the navigation just the Sirius which the truck has.
