Question tranny wont shift to manual 1

I have a 2000 f350 4x4 single wheel one ton automatic transmission went out about 2 years ago and it was rebuilt. Recently if in drive it will shift perfect but just can't manually shift to first. I have taken the cable off the transmission and tryed to shift the lever by hand and it will not go to first. Any ideas?

Does the shifter itself feel sloppy? Does it feel like it hits "park" correctly? There's two torx head bolts on the steering column under the dash that works loose and it could cause what you're describing...oops I read over the took the cable loose and it still wouldn't go..sorry.

Something is blocking the linkage or the manual valve from moving. Try removing the range sensor (that's the part with the wiring harness attached next to the shift lever that won't go to 1.) If it still won't move with that removed, then take the pan off and see what's wrong.

Thanks Mark I took the range sensor off and ended up being a small rock wedged between it and the transmission.

Just when you think that Mark cannot possibly teach us anything more, there he goes! Fortunately he spoon feeds us or we would not remember any of it.
