No brake lights, turn signals or flashers??

So about 6 months ago, I had this same problem, I read it's most commonly due to a short in the brake control switch on the brake pedal. So I swapped the brake control switch, replaced the fuse, and all was good.

Now, I'm having the same symptoms, so I switched the brake control switch with another new one, popped in a new fuse, ... And the fuse blew again. I disconnected the wiring harness to the brake control switch, and it still blew another fuse.

I read the flasher relay shares the same circuit, swapped the relay, ..and it still blew another fuse!

What else is on this circuit that could be blowing fuses???

Thanks in advance for any info

Which year and engine?

What fuse #?

WHEN does the fuse blow (immediately upon insertion, when brake pedal is pressed, ignition switch position, etc)?

2000 excursion v10. Fuse #13 blows immediately when you insert it. No foot on brake pedal

Did you ever have recall 05S28 performed? If not, go out immediately and unplug the connector on the brake master cylinder. Don't ask why, JUST DO IT NOW!

You won't have cruise control with that switch unplugged. Also, if the recall was never performed, the truck won't randomly self-combust, which, unless you want an insurance payout, is assumed to be a good thing.

Did that disconnection resolve the fuse blowing or not? That switch is, by far, the most common cause but is not the only possibility.

With the fuse blown, the risk of fire is nil, but there's always the temptation to put in a larger fuse which might not blow in a misguided attempt to restore brake lights. Better safe...

Update! With the cruise control deactivator switch unplugged, it does not blow the fuse any more!! Thanks projectsho for the info. I called the dealership and they say the recall already has been done. And I would be liable for the repair. We'll I don't use cruise control anyway so it's just going to stay unplugged.

Part is about $20-25 at the Ford part counter and takes all of 5 minutes to replace.

Another update, just my curiosity I unplugged the wire harness from the cruise control brain on the passenger side inner fender, under the hood, and my harness is melted!! So it may not be the deactivator switch on the master rather than the control modual itself. !!

What was the color of the wire(s) on the connector where it was melted?
