This is another place where Canadian production differs from US. The ID plate in the upper center of the firewall will show an engine number. That code will tell you which engine displacement and transmission that was originally installed in the truck, as well as a consecutive ID number of the engine itself. I'm not sure where the engine number is stamped on the block, but it may be on the block's intake face at the right rear of the intake. It was extremely common for engines to be swapped out for replacement when they wore out. If you have any kind of rebuilder tag on it, as shown, chances are 99.9% it's not the original engine.

Hey cowboy,
Welcome aboard! The easiest way to post pics is to join this site. That get's rid of most of the annoying advertising & it let's you post pics directly from your hard drive. You get a paperclip icon & just click on that to post a pic.
Good luck up there.

Not necessarily. The numbers are engineering numbers, and reflect the FIRST time they were used in production, in this case '51. C = Canada, 1 = 1951, BA who knows. My engine is an EAB, which is a '52-on car engine. It has a 1BA block, EAB crankshaft, and EAB heads, and that was the way it was made. There are also plenty of parts with 8BA casting numbers on it, which just means those are parts that remained unchanged from '48 thru whenever my engine was made. Is your engine out of the truck and apart? Did you see the 1BA on the back face of the block?
You need to find the serial numbers as 52Merc described.

Insured!!
So, armed with information... I return to the seller with pics of the vin and Nathan's decoding information and ask that we amend the bill of sale.... Seller is pretty easy to deal with although hard to get ahold of and we fix the year, vin and odometer reading.
I've got the truck insured with the vin in the pink card now and am hoping that this document will ease things at the registry office!!
May still require vin verification but I may be able to take care of that there with high Res pictures....
We'll see
I did find C1BA on the block, top of behind passengers side head
EAB is cast in my "made in Canada" heads

Thankyou for posting my truck picture in the thread and for the how to link! It's been an exciting week with the flathead and I want to thank everyone who posts in this forum for their help . The information posted has helped me to start bringing this ol girl back to life....
I got the flathead engine started and have had it running for a bit. Working on cooling issues. Would like to detail the process but am unsure if I'm supposed to start a new thread about that or continue here. Please advise and I'll start typing. Also have a video clip I recorded when I got over the initial shock of it firing up!
