Which lift kit whould i get i want a 6". I also want dual shocks in the front. I have my eye on the Pro Comp Stage 2 with the 6" rear springs. What do ya'll think about it. What other kit would be better and stand up to more abuse but still have a good ride quality. Tell me your opinions.
Skyjacker is what i have but its a 8 inch. they use Grade 8 hardeware. Ive heard but stuff about pro comp one newer fords. But i go with skyjacker or superlift. 79 Bronco 38.5
The 8" kit comes with a 8" coil up front and a 6" spring in back...this gives it the level ride height. I have 38.5" tires on mine and it looks great. I don't know if you could go much bigger without fender flares or a body lift. So, I would say a 37"-39" tires fills it out nicely.
How do you work on your truck. I have my shop in my garage and i have all the compressor tools in it. I also have a driveway with an incline so im left with the street. Or do you take it over to the local shop and get it worked on. I am really interested in the 8" lift now.
Usually, 35" or 36" is about as big as you want to go with the D44 if you're going to be doing any serious off-roading. On the street, you'd probably have more problems with the power steering than the axle.
I have not yet extended the driveshaft since doing the 8" lift...but I am going to replace them both with heavy duty shafts. I have been driving on the stock shafts for about 300 miles and have had no problems at all. As far as the axle goes, I am definitely getting rid of the Dana 44 as soon as I can find a good Dana 60 to handle the 38.5" tires.
A buddy of mine and I put the lift on right out in the street with a jack & jack stands.
I am in the middle of a move so I can't download any pictures. If you go out to Skyjacker.com and look at the "Rides" section you can filter the search to find Bronco's. There are a few with the 8" lift and large tires out there.
