My injector pump has a puddle of fuel under it after its runs for a bit. It gets so bad it leaves a trail where ever I go. I can't see the leak but the puddle is up front right behind the timing cover. Once it builds a big enough pebble it runs down the right front side of the motor and drips onto the ground (right front as you stand in the front of the truck looking at the motor with the hood up) does this mean the pump is bad or is it repairable? If not is it worth buying a used one for 200.00 vs the 550.00 at the auto parts store. What should I look for first when I remove the pump before I buy a new one. Thank you for the advice as I'm new to fords and diesels.
Uh, are you sure it's not engine oil leaking?
Usually, leaking fuel drips from the IP and down the trough under it, towards the /back/ of the engine. The IP gear cover only has oil in it.
If that's all it turns out to be, it's a matter of a few hours, a bit of care, and a little bit of silicone caulk.
I wish it was oil but it's definitely diesel. Now as far as where the leak is I don't know all I can see is the puddle. I think I'll take it out in the morning and check all of the hoses and clamps and reinstall it and see if that solves the problem. I watched a video on YouTube and minus the special angled wrenches I have the tools. I hope ratcheting wrenches will work in lieu of the special wrench.
could the seal on the fuel adjuster door be bad? thus the fuel would leak out the side? idk, because I'm not an expert at IP's, but whenever I adjust my fuel, a little bit gushes out the door when I open it.
Also, if an autoparts store is asking $550 for a cruddy IP, you might as well spend the extra twenty bucks for a good R&D IP. pumps
It was a rotten fuel line filling up the Vally pan and when the vehicle mes it's sloshed around leave small tell tail puddles. Thank you to everyone for the advice and help.
