Our 83' F700

Hey all, well we Just picked up a F700, 370 4V, 5 speed, got her home last night, is a nice driving truck, steers straight down the road, Brakes work Good, got her up to 60 mph, still gaining, truck/cab has hardly any rust/rot on it, and is in nice condition, need to fix some stuff not working like, dash lights, heater, wiper blades, couple lights, PTO is noisy (rattles some), got a knapheide 14' Flat Bed on it, no hoist, not sure if going to use this Flat Bed or install a 10' Dump body with tailgate. Will have my son post some pics soon !,,Mark

Clean looking truck, would be nice with a dump on it for sure. Thought about trying to replace the gooseneck bed on mine with a 9ft dump bed. But being I will use it for pulling our 41ft camper don't think I will do that.

Pulling the flatbed off today, looking for a dump body, a 10' 4-6 yard would fit nicely, but so far have only found 10' 5-7 yard bodys, 5-7 will be ok really just for small firewood deliveries anyway , but a 5-7 could easily overload this truck with dirt on it, not a good thing !!
The truck is very clean for 30 yrs old, I have been all over it, only has 3 - I/2 dollar size, rot holes in drivers floor, and a spot with 3 pencil size holes, the drivers door has a 8" x 1/2" rot on the very bottom(underside) of door, going to treat it, keep rot from spreading and leave it alone.

Bigger bed would work just fine. Just don't fill it up and your good to go. Plus if your hauling firewood or something that has bulk but not as much weight it will haul more there.
But just remember to not fill the 5 to 7 yd bed full of rock or dirt. Shoot even in our 16ft dump beds we used to run, some products we could not fill the bed or be way over our 74,000 lb gross on a Tri-axle.

Ok we took the flat Bed off the F700, that is one rugged flatbed(Heavy), a day or two Before we took the bed off,, the truck seemed to suddenly loose all it's vacum, for the Brakes, Buzzer comes on briefly while steering, seems to be the Brake Booster check valve, here hissing sound when truck shuts off, have one on order.

Also when truck was warm, running kind of rough, rich gas smell, headache making smell, cant seem to find carb adjustment (rich/lean mixture screws), plus seems the EGR plate is blown out, exhaust leak, so ordered a Holley 600 manual choke and a 1" spacer setup, I know no Govenor setup on this carb, should help it run better, will see how it turns out.

The Vacum Booster Check valve arrived today, my son removed the old one(just fell apart) installed New Check valve, started truck, ahhh vacuum Gauge is where it should be, No Buzzer, Nice when it's just a $30 dollar part.

Earlier this morning, at 7:30 am off we went to pickup the 12' Rugby Dump Body I found on Craigslist, Cab protector, 12" fold down sides, Hoist and sub-frame, (Need to find a tailgate)In decent shape, Got it for $950, so parts are coming together for the F700.
After re-measuring the truck cab to axle and beyond a 10' Dump Body was not right for the truck, had to move the axle, lots of drilling, cut redo the drive shaft etc, the 12 Body will be easier to install.

Guess my dad has been slacking on the updates on the f700, after many months of messing with the brakes on it we finally got them working right, all new wheel cylinders, brake booster and brake lines they work sweet. Now we got sides made for the dump bed and can start getting that together finally. After buying a new pto driven pump and a tank it dumps really nice, heres some more pics of it any questions ask my father

Yep as of Monday 8/25/14 the dump body and tailgate have been painted same color as the wheels, Rustoleum Hammerd Silver, and this Laborday weekend hoping to paint the cab Rustoleum Sail Blue with a coat of Rustoleum Automotive Clearcoat applied after, also have a Sun Visor for it to be painted the same time.

The Brakes were somewhat of a challenge while it had new brake shoes, and someone had been in there Anti-seize on many items, the wheel cylinders were seeping , so we changed all 8 of them, 2 on each wheel, then also replaced every brakeline with 1/4" Ni/Copper lines, and the flex lines, finaly the Brakes work sweet, Now paint, lights, new plugs, change the oil, safety items to check out, and then see about the registration.

PS the Hoist is painted sail Blue color!

Sounds like you have done a lot of work for sure. If I still have my F800 next spring. I'm thinking hard about putting a dump bed on it. We can always use a dump truck around the farm. Wonder how a dump bed would work on my truck and leave the sleeper on it also??
Also been thinking about adding a F350 dually bed to it and making a toy out of it.

Yes we have some time in working on the F-700, but many of the days were waiting for Napa to get in wheel cylinders, then they would be the wrong ones, or, Get this, a Old Junk wheel cylinder, sent to Napa from there warehouse in a sealed box!!
Yes after that we checked each item before we left the store !
Also many days waiting for garage space to be available to work on it, also purchased a 35 Ton air jack from Northern Tool, sure helps to Jack the Truck up easier

I purchased the Eastwood Brake Flaring Tool kit from Amazon, That sure made the Brake line replacement go faster, easier, would recommend it to anyone, about $ 50 cheaper at Amazon then Ebay .
I purchased the truck September 2013, here it is about September 2014, Not yet on the Road, But Making Progress.-- Mark

PS, The tailgate(Rugby body did not have one) is From a Good Friend of mine who Passed away in November 2013(RIP Dominic) Tailgate(in Good Condition) was from an Old F-600 AWD he had restored in the early 80's, that has since been put out to pasture, sitting as a rusted out parts truck, so In sense will keep a Part of him memorialized !
