Been a while,I'M back with transmission trouble.

Hi Indiana people. I have been a member of the forum for years but haven't been around much for a long while. I asked this in the 87-96 (includes 97 F250,F350 heavy duty trucks) area, but thought I would throw it out here too. I have a 97 F250 ext.cab long bed 4x4 that I recently picked up. The speed sensor wasn't working. Turns out fuse number 8 was out and after replacing it the truck ran and drove great. For a few hundred miles. The truck is a 460 E40D combo. My wife was driving it on the hi way this morning when it went into neutral and wouldn't do anything. I went to check it out guessing that maybe the transfer case had popped into neutral. After moving the transfer case lever it will go into gear and move but if I put it in drive it won't shift. If I put it in first I can shift it into second just fine but when I shift to third it don't feel like it is going completely into gear. It goes but slips ? The fluid is full and clean, not burned, the speedometer and odometer is working. These are not near as easy as figuring out a 390 and C6 in a 66 F100. Any thoughts or suggestions ?
