Need help on 99.5 7.3 Powerstroke
I am new to diesels and don't know much about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 99.5 f350 with 7.3 powerstroke with 288000 miles. The truck runs great when it's first started but after about 30 minutes of driving it sputters when you try to accelerate and has no power. When it does that blue smoke comes out the exhaust. If you shut it off a few minutes it runs good again for a few minutes then starts the sputtering again. I changed the Cps and fuel filter with no help. The old filter was clean. The oil is full and the hpop is about 3/4 of an inch below the top. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Steven, have you ever dropped the fuel tank? It sure sounds like a fuel problem. Perhaps the screens on the pickup are clogged, or partly clogged. You might want to do a search for Hutch mod. Easy to do and well worth the effort. The only thing that has me stumped is the blue smoke. That is generally associated with oil burning. Where are you located? Maybe someone in the group is near you that has AE and can check it out for you.

Checkengine light on? When it acts up unplug the ICP see what happen's, sounds like your running out of fuel, Hutch mod is a must on our trucks, along with rebuilding the fuel bowl, the orings ford used were not meant to be run with ULSD and they fall apart, usually leak but the fuel intake up top can stick closed. When it acts ups open the fuel bowl and look inside, turn the key on should overflow. CPS are known for problems too especesally when warm.

Thank you guys for all the help and information. Had a guy bring a computer and run some test. Figured out when it would cut out the fuel pressure was dropping. Dropped the tank and the black pickup tube on the bottom of the sending unit was broke off and the micro filters were clogged up. After a new pickup tube and cleaning the filters it runs as good as new. Thank you guys again.

Steven,
To prevent it from happening in the future consider what we call the Hutch mod. Gets rid of the in tank filters so you don't have to drop the tank again. Here's a link to a how to.
Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page
Or you can do a search using the tab up top and type in Hutch and Harpoon
Glad you got her running again.
