Is this truck worth it?

This truck is being discussed over on an F-1 Facebook page. They think the price is too high, and I would agree usually. But, after seeing these ebay trucks go for astronomical prices here over the past couple years, what do you guys think? Bid currently is at $2850.

It appears to be unmolested, a huge plus in my view. I guess there will be a lot more rust than we see. It will be interesting to see where price goes, what someone thinks it is worth.

Just goes to show what location and larger audience will do for price. It's way more than I'd pay for it. I may need to rethink some of my stuff for sale if this is an accurate barometer of the marketplace. I've got one in much better condition I'd let go for half that.

Most any appraiser will tell you that one of the best indicators of value is a public auction. Whatever that truck brings when it closes is what it was "worth" on that day.

I agree. That's the point I'm trying to make. It doesn't surprise any of us nowadays when one takes off and goes for 4-5x what we expected it to bring.

It depends on where the buyer is located and how badly he wants that truck. I'd say it is worth 1/2 that in the deep SE, <1/3 that in the dry SW and would be considered a nearly pristine barn find worth that much or more in the rust belt NE to someone who wasn't willing to do long distance shopping and/or wanted to leave the exterior as is. IMHO it has very little going for it, will require jacking up the radiator cap (if it has one???) and putting a truck under it, and as such I wouldn't pay more than 5-800.00 IF it has a clean transferable title. You must also include the cost to transport it. I've seen much better for much less.

IMHO it is way overpriced. Nothing against the seller but frankly I am tired of rust rot being mistaken for "patina". I have purchased some things lately that the seller claimed only had "surface rust". When you really clean back the rust you find that it has rotted through. Rust = a lot of time/money to fix right. While patina has a look and place in the hobby market, a lot of people have begun using it as a fancy way of saying rusted. Just my .02.

Hmmmm... The motor & drivetrain are shot so you are paying for the body & frame. There is a load of work to get that body back into decent shape. I do like that the cab interior is unmolested as our dash had been modified & was a ton of work to fix. If the rest of the truck is any indicator the rear springs are broken in half - yikes!

I just looked at the bid history on that truck. It's concerning to say the least. I think it's a sham. The same bidder (with only 2 feedback points on ebay), has made every single bid except one. I'd worry about a shill bidder.

Just been through this on my 51 F-1 and it was cleaner than this truck.
Going to take a Hell of a lot of work to get it on the road!

Vin Plack?

I think if it has a VIN plack and is uncut, the F1 is automatically $2K more valuable than the others. Our hobby is small but growing, so it makes sense prices for the raw material would be rising.

Hard to believe that not only is he dumb enough to pull it with the tie rod, but to post a picture of doing it.

A $700 truck all day, not sure what parts are even restorable. Has the look of a Gulf Coast truck, driven in salt water.
