Has any body just replaced the rings
#2
When I did mine the bearings looked fine but I replaced them anyway. If your pistons are good I'd say rings and gaskets would help. But you'll need to check out the heads also I did new valves and comp springs also with my build. Only thing I didn't replace was LPOP and pistons as far as big price parts because the motor I used only had around 150,000 on it. Been good for over 10,000 miles now and not a problem out of it. (Knock on wood)
so far it still has 0 blow by.
some blow by is ok with these motors. the 1 I pulled out had a major problem it would blow air like a air compressor out breather about 2 ft but ran ok. only reason I built 1 was it used 3 gallons of oil in 300 miles so it was time. I'd do a compression check before I got to far into it.
Good luck

I would say it is ok if your pistons and cylinders are within spec but what I have found is a rering kit vs a ford oem rebuild kit, you get way more for your money with the ford rebuild kit. The kit has new pistons, rings, oil pump, oil cooler, oil filter, glow plugs, bearings, ALL the gaskets and orings...... I couldn't justify my time to go back in there for the few hundred extra.
