Brake Problem - Some Here Might Have/Had It

2003 F150 4.2

Right front brake started smoking. Stopped and diagnosed that the brake caliper was sticking. Replaced that and the almost new pads and bled thoroughly.

The pedal feels firm until you turn the truck on then, the pedal about goes to the floor.

Managed to nurse it home, bled all 4 wheels extensively in proper order, no change.

I am thinking based upon what I have managed to find here and elsewhere that it is probably the ABS HCU but, I have No Codes.

If it is the ABS HCU, where is the best place to buy (I've seen it NOS on eBay) and is the installation a DIY type of job?

Thanks,
Dave in NC

is the caliper on right bleeder valve to the top. try knocking lightly on the caliper see if you get any air out.

Wrong Caliper

No carguy94, it wasn't at the top. Advance sold me the wrong caliper. I am inexperienced at putting new calipers on, was in a parking lot in the hot sun with only essential tools and, did not even think about the bleeder being on the bottom. Since the new caliper wasn't locking up like the old one, I managed to nurse the truck along some country roads to my shop. Got to thinking about it after bleeding all 4 wheels and said to myself, "wait a minute, wasn't the bleeder at the top of the other calipers and, doesn't air rise in a liquid?" Got the correct caliper and an hour later that issue was solved. Thanks for your response and I hope this serves as a warning to other DIYers out there.
