Engine Stall declaration
1988 F250 Lariat Diesel
Engine stalls after releasing throttle pedal i was considering the temperature though after running for 40 minutes at idle in park not would not reach 192 degrees, there was word that pistons burn so i think a cylinder test would be appropriate
Anyone with heads up on the situation
The gauge on the dash is almost half using a Cen tech infrared thermometer
The temperature at the thermostat housing and neck read between 178 and 183
08/22/2014 F250 Lariat thermo temp
1988 F250 Temp gauge reading
when accelerating at 2000 RPM for few the releasing the throttle the engine quits same scenario when driving and preparing to stop the engine will quit
Video
after letting it idle for 15 minutes it still has not reached temperature above 190 so have ot been able to check if thermostat opens
A new thermostat calls for Part Number: 4399

engine stalling after releasing throttle has nothing to do with the engine temp. it is a sign of injector pump problems.
first thing to do is fire the engine up and get it warm.
then shut it off and remove the fuel filter. drain it, and fill with ATF.
put it back on and start the engine. let it idle for 30-45 seconds and shut off.
then let it sit for at least 12 hours, 24 hours is better.
the ATF will clean the crud off the inside of the injector pump.
if this does not fix the stalling problem, you will probably need a new injector pump.
