94 f150 fuel filter

Trying to change the fuel filter in my dads 94 f150. I got the tool but i cant get the lines off. I sprayed pb blaster in there pulled on them hard while pushing the tool inward and even tried using a screwdriver for leverage but i cant get the damn lines off. I want to do my 95 too but im sure it will be just as PITA. Am i doing something wrong i dont see why there so hard to get off.

Do not pull on the lines. If anything push in a bit. Those pesky garter springs are well known to corrode then become very stubborn. I ended up getting a set of cheap plastic release tools to get mine off.

These work soooooooooooo much better IMO. The problem I see with the metal tool is you need to get it in there exactly straight or you won't be able to push all the tines down on the garter spring. The plastic tool is just much easier to hold in the hand and work with for this.

With either tool it's a bit tricky: you need to push the tool in to push the tines down, then you need to pull on the hose or filter. Sort of a push and pull at the same time. Once you do it a few times you'll get the hang of it. Also, once it's off you can look in there and see that nasty spring so you know what you are working with.

I did this on mine recently and it is more difficult than it needs to be. You just need to have the right touch. I got the front line off easily because there was more clearance. The rear was harder because you're working between the tank and frame. The front came off right away but it took me about 15 minutes to get the rear off. The trick is to get the tool in all the way then push the filter into the line, get the tool in more and finally pull the filter out. It's the "push-n-pull" method mentioned before. I was patient and stuck with it because I read here previously that it's not as easy as it should be. Otherwise I probably would have gotten overheated and frustrated and fought with it for an hour when a little patience and finesse is all you need. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Gotta give it a try again tomar. It started raining now its too cold today. I have used this tool doing gas tanks before without problems but this filter is in such an awkward place. Wish it was like the 87-89 fuel lines. Those are so much easier.
