I put in a new stock t-sat when I replaced my waterpump in the spring.
Now it is not working they way it should.
My ? is that my truck has a daily weight of 12,000 lbs and also tows a 10k dump trailer sometimes.
Here in CT we can have -10* in the winter and 100* in the summer.
Do you think the 185* t-sat would be best for me?
Thanks

what is your coolant temperature with the truck... And what is it when you have the trailer?

It was running about 190-195* but it has been climbing up into the low 200's.
With the trailer she will run between 200-215* depending on the ambient temp.

I don't see anything wrong with those temperatures, but if you want it to run cooler maybe try the 185°....that might get you in the 190 - 195 range if that's what you're lookin for.

But remember, if you go to low, the truck will never reach a temperature that commands closed loop and it will dump the fuel tank trying to warm up past 185°.

This engine does not have an "open loop". My MPG only went up by about 3 when I changed my t-stat and went from 120 to 186.

Does anybody know why the Ford t-stats almost never get to their designed 192 temp? Is it because they simply open too soon, or, do they not shut off all the way?

This has been a mystery for quite awhile. Lots of old threads talking about how many (not all) people have trouble reaching 192 and then maintaining 192 for more than a few months. It seems most 192 t stats want to keep coolant somewhere between 186-190 Some people have tried different brands...same result. To my knowledge, this is the first 200 t stat thats been offered for the 6.0. Time will tell if they maintain that temp in the long run.

What's bizarre is some people have the original one in and they run 195....we buy a new one and get 188.

I can only say this is the 1st vehicle I have ever owned that ran cooler than the t stat rating. ( with the 192)

Although technically not open and closed loop, the PCM operates the engine more efficiently above 186, whereas under 185 is considered cold start.

Very noticeable by observing injector pulse width at idle and steady cruise.

Can someone do me a favor and make a post. My
stupid mail server is marking all the posts on
this thread as junk mail. I think we have it fixed
but you all know how that goes.
