Jaguar XJ6 or Ford Crown Vic Suspension for an f100 build?

I am in the research phase of building a late 60's f100 short bed and was talking with a friend who builds street rods and he was suggesting the Jaguar 1981 - 1987 XJ6 independent suspension. I have only read about the Crown Vic suspension swap and was curious if anyone could shed some light on the PROs and CONs of either the Jag or the crown vic suspension?

Thanks!
J

Everybody is doing the CV swap... Dare to be different.

Do your own homework and go Jag.

Will the JAG be a better ride? What about parts will they be harder to source than a newer CV?

Thanks!

I've noted quite a few XJs at the JYs I go to. With any British car, parts will not be as common as domestic brands. XJs were luxury cars and yes, heavy. It'll be fine with an F-series. I haven't heard of anyone doing the swap in this forum but there may be someone in the Slick forum who have considered it.

Let me remind you to do your homework. I googled "Jaguar XJ6 IFS swap" and found lots of info. Here's a good one: TECH WEEK Jag XJ6 IFS into F100 | The H.A.M.B.

Both are good donor swaps to get IFS. just depends on personal preference and parts price and availability. CV will probably have cheaper parts and more in stock when needed. The jag is good to but more expensive and less parts in stock at the stores.

I did crown vic in my truck, handling and ride are great. They are cheap, and you can find parts anywhere. No, I didn't come up with the idea. If that's a hangup, streetrod guys have been using jag stuff for 30 years...

I think I'm leaning towards the crown vic did to parts availability and such ( what year (s) is best and police interceptor or just any old crown vic will do? ) and what all can I use from the cv? Engine? Tran? Master cylinder ? Etc etc i would like to make the most out of that pick if I can

Also the the rear what car should I be looking for? I've read about a Lincoln mark ?? And what year? Or if anyone has a better suggestion let me know

I'm half way through my crown vic swap it has a lot of advantages rack & pinion, big brakes ect. also consider the Chrysler (M) platform
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_M_platformit also is a (bolt in ) and was a popular swap in early F100's

I used a explorer rear axle under mine and I don't like it (too narrow) I'm switching to a Mark VIII (irs) if you can find one use a 8.8 axle from an early 80's F100 they are 5 on 4&1/2 bolt pattern and would be a direct bolt in .

I don't think they are a direct bolt in... wouldn't the leaf spring pads need to be moved due to the narrower frames of the 67-72?

....i believe they would be a bolt-in for 73-79 2WD half-tons.

jaguar xj6 or crown vic suspension swap

just my two cents worth I have to agree with the other guys on here go for the crown vic swap get a 2003 -2006 police interceptor ifs they have the big brakes as for the rear swap I would go for the Lincoln or thunderbird irs both the front & rear suspensions are easy to find and you can get parts easy if you go to team321.com and give dave a call he did have the brackets available to mount the irs to a f100 truck they were 395.00 plus shipping but the price may have changed by now it was a long time ago since I looked at his site best of luck with your choice your biggest expense will be the fabrication costs if you cant do it yourself you might have a buddy that could do it for all the best
