NFL - National Fi$cal League

Hi,

I saw several reports today stating that the NFL is planing to have the Super Bowl half time acts pay for the privilege of appearing.

THAT ought to increase the quality of entertainment. What top shelf group wouldn't jump at the chance to pay to make an appearance?

This follows the reports about what Minneapolis has to cough up for their winning Super Bowl bid. It included providing some absurd number of cars and buses free of charge among other ludicrous demands.

I like to watch a little football, but it just keeps getting harder.

Yeah I also saw that bit of nonsense----who indeed will pay for that "privilege"?

The NFL's first choice entertainers were given the choice of paying up front OR committing a portion of their future tour proceeds instead----that's even more ridiculous.

Most half time acts I've seen so far needed their careers resuscitated or were the latest new thing. I can't really recall any long time highly successful acts playing that date.

I'll watch a few games on free TV but will never pay to watch any game---just not that interesting to me.

It will be fun seeing how this bit plays out and who will play the halftime show in 2015.

It's the free market at work. Granted the NFL has some monopolistic protections, but years ago when the NFL's image and market weren't as good, they probably had to pay a halftime performer. Now that they have a HUGE audience during every Super Bowl, it can be a massive marketing boost for a halftime performer, so they're floating the idea of "pay to play". It may not work, but you can't fault them for trying--they're in the business of making more money. It's a risk that may have a reward (and I don't think that it's all that risky).

Well, they're in the process of 'free marketing' about 600 million from Minnesota for a new stadium that 'the public ' didn't want so I'm not inclined to view them very favorably.

At any rate, Katy Perry is apparently not going along with their plan.

I don't watch sports simply because it is all about money. Over paid people playing a game.

One of my biggest complaints about sports teams is the players and where they come from. A state team is to represent THAT STATE, but yet the team is made up of people from all over the country? wtf is that? We are the green bay packers but our players are from every other state...

Agree 100%. Why are cities so stupid to finance stadiums for pro teams? These franchises ALWAYS go up in value. Let them finance their own stadiums! Also, and I'm not a Panther or Cardinal fan, but teams below 500 should not be in the play-offs. This should be for winning teams only.
