HELP!!!PROBLEMS!!!2002 Ford explorer sport trac 4x4

When I put it in Reverse it.....rev rev rev jerks and dies.... It runs fine in Drive..... I just got 2 new back tires when this started.... Don't know if it has anything to do with it or not
I read about others having this problem.... Just need some ideas on what it could be?
