Hard Hats, i need one.

I need to buy a hard hat, after looking online, whooaa, I had no idea there were so many styles. I'd like to have a full brim with vents because of the hot weather, but what is 4 point or 6 point suspension? And all the other terms?

I'm liking this one

more points is more straps, more comfortable, I think. Also, ratcheting is a must. Let's you tighten it on your head. I end up re-setting the straps so the visor is backwards. If you have to look up a lot, the visor can get annoying. I think mine is the poly. the lighter, the better. The more comfortable it is, the more likely you are to wear it. "safety quote"

Ok it's just for Heavy Equipment Operation so I won't have to be wearing it ALL the time.

Grainger has them in stock for the same price. Just got one the other day along with some nice safety sunglasses that wrap around the eyes.

Before buying one, check around and see if there is a color code typically used in your area. Many places ID jobs by hardhat colors, I know in the shipyard all the different shops had different colors and on the oil rigs the different jobs typically have different colors as well. Green is typically workers while white is lead, there is some variation depending on the company though, and various stripes to denote level.

Aah, I see. I would see if any of the job sites you are on have specific requirements and then go from there.

I work as an outside machinist in a local shipyard and have to wear one all dang day. It's quite expensive compared to what was posted, but I recommend the MSA Skullgard Full Brim. Fiberglass and light.

The brim just gets in the way for me. Something you may have to do is cut where the straps are sewn together and resew them with them so the hardhat fits your head and doesn't just sit on top but I switched from the fibremetal and haven't looked back.
