on my 88 f-250 the brakes seem to be stuck. the truck had been parked for 4 years with the brake on. when I bought it, the brake came off and I am able to drive it except when I accelerate it takes a lot of gas to get moving but once I am moving I don't notice it. im not familiar with ford trucks since im only 16 and came here to see if anyone had any advice. thanks
do you have a rear e brake only and is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive. have you tried jacking the truck up seeing which wheels are stuck or free if any and do you mean main system brakes were on or parking brake only. if its four wheel you will get resistance in the wheels try stopping hard and seeing which wheels are frozen or stuck. standard or automatic
the truck is 2 and 4 wheel drive, I have jacked it up and the rear wheels don't spin as easy as the front, the parking brake was what was left on, and finally its an automatic
You are going to have to reach in through the backing plate and turn the self adjuster to free up the brakes and remove the drum. Once the drum is off you can spray the parking brake lever with pb blaster while working it back and forth to free it up and chances are the e brake cable is rusted and won't slide so you may have to replace it.
how did it shift did you check the transmission fluid beings its an older truck and it been sitting it very likely to have a very slow leak which in return mean the engine needs to turn faster to get the wheels going. most likely everything is a rusty mess if you live near the rust belt so getting the drums off will most likely take some effort. try putting the truck in reverse it should move backwards on it own fairly easy.
you may want to just put new shoes and hardware on it and clean up all the rust as the shoes become hard after a while and even when rest of the hardware is working they will still give you trouble.
