This was right after I took the pan off. It was cleaner than I thought it would be.

How many quarts does it take after dropping the pan?
I think it is 7 quarts from the torque converter.

I bought 4 gallons of fluid just want to make sure there is enough on hand as I usually do these things after hours and I also have NO back up vehicle running right now to go get more stuff.

I have a new extended pan for it. A new filter and a new re-useable gasket going in.

On a side note , has anyone had any experience with a Gear Vendors over drive unit for these? I have 2 very long road trips on the horizon and would pay off a lot of it just with those two trips. This truck is also going to be my daily driver for the next year or so. Hopefully it goes back to just camping and 4 wheeler hauling trips after that.

Four gallons of fluid on-hand is MORE than enough. Service manual states to refill with 6.5 quarts through the filler tube, and add 0.5 pints at a time to reach the proper level.
