My van was built without the factory trailer tow package, and has a transmission cooler measuring APPROX 12" x 6" x 1.5"

Do I need to add additional transmission cooling (or change the cooler to a larger one) to pull a 5000 pound trailer?

I added a cooler from a 2006 6.0 Super Duty last week. The thing is huge! Seems to run cooler now. Rarely gets over about 160-170.

 

I haven't had any issues with my '12 towing a 5000 dry weight camper on the stock cooler. My brother is running the same van but an '08 and towing bigger than me (NADA says 5400 dry weight) camper, also with no issues. A buddy actually borrowed my van last summer to pull his ~7000 lb camper when is excursion blew a brake line, he said it towed well all around.

I wouldn't change it, in my opinion.
