I had my oil changed yesterday
last night I smell oil didn't see no leaks
today I took it back he said it was a little over. so he drain a little out oil
he pulled out the oil stick it was very hot. had even had steam coming off
the dipstick. I have heard that if a ac has leak it could get into your oil
my ac cold air. the hose come in drier is cold. top of drier is wet water
and hose in to ac compressor is cold wet. any ideals thanks

 

There's no way a leaking a/c can contaminate the oil….

When the air is hot and humid it's not unusual to have water condensing on the cold portions of the a/c system…

The only time I had problems with a very hot dipstick was with my '95 E-350 with the 5.8 engine. I was hauling 'just in time' auto parts (put on 280,000 miles in 18 months) and I was using the local fleet store's house brand oil made by Citgo. It seemed to be the culprit as I changed to Mobil 1 and never had any problems with high oil temps after that.

I'm not saying the oil is your problem… just giving you my input.

I just drain a little bit out oil pan and it was clear. no smell
I hope it was them that did the oil change. and added to much.

 

to found out they put in 5w30 havoline oil in
that to low for summer ?

 

It won't kill your engine but I'd run a 10W30 if you are using dino oil. You can get away with a lighter oil if running synthetic… IMHO of course.

 

Theoretically they should be about the same, since both have a "30" rating hot. But with dino juice they get the "multi-weight" ratings by starting with base oil that gives the low temp "W" rating, and then adding viscosity improving additives to get the higher hot rating. that works OK, but the additives don't hold up as well as the base oil. Main thing that means is that eventually you'll actually have 5W20, then 5W10, then straight 5W. That said, additives are pretty good now, so I wouldn't sweat it with what I would consider normal oil change intervals (3000 miles).

 

will try a new oil change . guess 10w30 for the summer ? was told that 5/30 should be
for winter ? I live in Montana

 

I did another oil change put in 10/30 castro gtx
still real hot check the oil dipstick was steaming real hot
motor even hot .. inside cab reads normal qauges.
antifreeze is clean. had flushed . when we changed oil 5/30 it was clear
what could it be ? pvc valve ok I drove it about 20 miles doing about 70 engine
was hot. we waited till motor was cool down before driving it. and I did have ac on. thanks

 

The OEM temp gauge in the dash tends to be unreliable at best. See if anyone you know has a infrared thermometer you can borrow and do some temp checking with it.

 

changed out the thermostat and pvc today. still motor hot.
put in 195 on pvc guy took a light test heat on hose they was around
178 dg oil sending unit was around 198 dg
took it to parts store pick up new cap for radiator we had all ready had the
thermostat put it back together . when I went to take the cap off it was trying to run over the top. thanks

 

When you had the rad cap off and the engine running, was there a lot of bubbles?

 

no bubbles it took a few then it went down so we added more antifreeze

 

That's good! Your head gaskets are probably OK then. Really, those temps are about normal. The oil does get hotter than the coolant. You might check the timing, if it is too slow it can raise EGTs which can make things quite hot under the hood. After that you might check for exhaust restriction e.g. plugged cat.

 

What makes you think the engine is running hot? The two temperature readings you posted today at 6:04pm suggest everything is fine. That coupled with the dash gauges not showing any indication of trouble makes me think there may not be any issue at all.

Take a look at where the dipstick tube sits in relation to the exhaust manifold, of course the dipstick is going to be HOT, it runs right next to the exhaust manifold. My dipstick has burnt oil residue on it where it passes by the manifold and has been that way for 10 years at least.

 

One more thing. Try not to get more than a 50/50 mix of antifreeze to water. Too much antifreeze can actually make it run hotter. Strait antifreeze doesn't release the heat like a water mix will.
