Custom '08 Fender Vents From Billet Badges.com

About two wildfires, and some months ago I contacted Steve Smart from Billetbadges.com about creating some custom vents for the '08. He figured out the tooling and after some exchanges of artwork and concepts:
Step 1 Remove existing vents, which are chromed plastic and held in with clips.

Once the old vent was removed, the wiring could be completed. Note that heat shrink connectors were used since this will be in the salt.

After the paint underneath was cleaned with a mix of alcohol and water, dried and warmed with a heat gun, the new machined vents were installed.

These incorporate the Whelen LINZ6, a 6 LED linear head with very good off axis warning. They are very bright.

For those in the fire service or other emergency vehicle applications, Steve Can customize these to reflect your department, unit number, etc.

First off brother - those are SICK!!

I've contacted Billet and asked for a similar set, but with the first line reading the factory "EXCURSION" font then the middle line of "6.8L V10".

Can you tell me where you found the lights that fit inside that badge - and did you have to drill new holes in the fender to get the wiring through, or did the wiring fit through an existing hole under the original badge?

Thanks!!!

These fit the 6.4 diesels (2008-11) which have functional vents. (No cutting) the Billet product would fit your Excursion, but you will have to cut a hole for the light and wire.

The light is a Whelen LINZ6 which is switched seperately to allow side only warning. The light head is attached to the billet vent with sensor safe RTV.

OUCH...not ready to commit to a vent-sized hole just yet. ...wonder if these surface-mounted to the badge would work....

The Vertex has a bigger diameter than the LINZ6, but anything can be machined......

You might consider installing the Vertex in the front turn signal, or Whelen recently released a new flush mount head that you could mount on the bottom of the mirror.

Third approach would be to upgrade the mirrors to the newer style towing mirrors and mount a lamp in the marker light area.

I noticed you used automative red tape on the back. Is it because you broke the clips? Does using only the red tape hold it to the vehicle? I have a 2006 F350 and want to do the same but without a LED installed.

Thanks.
