I am looking at a Ford truck that has been refurbished and while it has F100 badges the VIN starts with F250. Is there a way to distinguish the model or is the prefix on the VIN the best determinate? Maybe the badges were all that was available?
Welcome to the forum! Your questions brings up more questions. Is the seller offering it as an F100? Is it a long wheelbase or short? Where is the actual vin located on the vehicle you're reading? Does he have a title to go with it? Does the title match the numbers on the truck? And more specifically, the numbers stamped on the frame? Has anything been altered, ie; frame length, etc, to make a 250 become a 100? Does it have 8 lug wheels, or 5?
Thanks for the speedy response. I will def check. Its a beautiful looking vehicle. It has F100 badges but offered as a 250. Its also the long wheel base with wood lining the bed.
Certainly, badging can be transplanted as can cabs on many trucks. Get the VIN and the reported year to allow our experts to better assist. Pics would also be helpful.
It could be something as simple as the hood was replaced and no one switched the badges. As long as the seller is honest about what he's selling and the numbers match your paperwork, you should be good to go.
As mentioned, get the numbers and letters stamped into the frame. Top of the passenger side in the area of the front axle. They're the numbers that matter and corresponding paperwork determine if you have ownership of that particular truck.
Welcome to the madness. Basically, whether the badging was change, etc. makes very little difference IMHO. The shortbed F100 has more collector appeal and value over anything longbed. Having said that, F100's also were offered in the longbed variety. It comes down to personal choice whether you like the truck or not. Many people take longbeds and shorten them. Some people get hung up on the "numbers matching" thing. It is so common to mix and match parts to make a good running truck, that is all that matters. As for the badging, no one repops F250 and up badging and NOS is very pricey so many shave or replace with F100 badges. Good luck!
