You disconnect the battery for a few minutes so the airbag system de-energizes. Then remove the steering wheel, the lower cover and it gets simple from there.
This is the latest post in the Exped section regarding "airbag" so I'm posting here...
2004 Ford Expedition 4x4 XLT Sport 135k miles.
Thanks to Forum, Code 42 is the front impact sensor.
I took it apart and found corrosion as reported widely in the Forum. No broken parts though.
Cleaned it up nicely, added dielectric grease and reassembled.
Airbag light still flashes 42.
Truck has not been driven.
Will it reset on its own after driving?
I also picked up a new sensor from Ford, just in case, but it has a different PN. Of course I will call them to ask but I'll accept input from the Forum...is the new one simply a replacement number for this 10 year old truck?
The part numbers should match unless it's been superseded over the years. The airbag light should go off once the problem is cleared up. Since the light is still on then there's more to it for you to still address.
