Good news and bad news...
Well the good news is 2 fold. One is I met a super nice guy today and we hit it off great! I bought a pair of OEM CC running boards from him and after we loaded them into my X we went back to his garage and he showed me a bunch of the projects he's working on. We talked for at least 2 hours and his fiance (who I didn't meet) sounds a lot like my wife. So not only did I find a great deal on some running boards (I might still be able to get the Iron Cross guys) but I think I met an actual friend today! Wife is pretty leery after the last 2 couples we met (both turned out to be horrible people) but she promised to give it one more shot Now the bad news... He drives a PSD. I'm in love, and not just a little but I want one. The 5.4 is the end all and be all but that tiny 6.0 is pretty tough. I think we might be able to afford to make an addition to the family when my VA rating kicks in and I'll be damned if I wasn't stealing glances at his CC. Now it was a short bed, but baby still had a little back
TLDR; I might have made an actual friend outside of FTE (I'll still keep you guys around... maybe) and I want a diesel more than ever. Also I want a truck again.

Beware:
Once you drive a diesel, you'll never want to drive anything else!
I test drove three Excursions before I bought my 2005 PSD, one in the 5.4 V8 (not bad, just a little gutless for me), one in the 6.8 V10 (hotrod, but who wants 12 MPG as your average fuel mileage?), and the final (one that I bought) in the 6.0 PSD. It was best of all worlds, with big power (once the boost kicks in), good fuel mileage (I get 21 on the highway at 60 MPH, and right around 19 in mixed city-highway), and you gotta love the sound of the turbo once it starts to spool up.
I almost opted for the CC L/B instead of the Excursion, but I really needed a minimum of 7 seats for my famiglia, so I made the decision to take the UV (can't call it an SUV, because there's nothing sporty about a 4x4 Excursion) and I'm very happy with that decision.
On a side note, just make sure that your wife never gets the idea to fill it up. Some of them don't understand the difference between diesel and gasoline (ask me how I know...)

the 6.0 is an amazing motor...but it has her downfalls (and no I'm not talking about things that go pop)
I had a 2006 F-250 lifted and on 35's similar to my current X. She was tuned with the Gearheads SLR tune.
There is a section of road here where you climb a hill for about 5 miles. With the 6.0 on that hill, it had a hard time holding speed at 55 mph in overdrive.
With the V-10 on the exact same stretch of road, most times (ie: 99%) she stays in overdrive the entire time. It's amazing the difference in the power profiles between the 2 motors. They each have their niche areas and succeed at doing their jobs.
I absolutely miss the power and torque of my 6.0...miss miss miss...but there are many times when I love my V-10 as much as or more than it. You simply put your foot down and she goes. With the PSD, you had to wait a second and all hell broke loose.
hopefully you can get yourself a nice 6.0. They are the knee's bees. But don't downplay your 5.4 either. Equally good motor, just slightly deficient in the power department

Congrats man on the running boards (score). And diesels are great when pulling bc you cant beat that mpg. V-10 city runner pulling trailer great but mpg horrible. 5.4 lets be honest idk why ford did that but its a good errand runner.. But all aside livinglarge is right save up and get a diesel. Boss just picked one up at auction for 11Gs. F350 low miles runs strong like a mule. Just save save save its hard sometimes but you can get there.

I've driven up "monteagle" in TN going both ways and had no trouble accelerating up (w/o downshifting), the hellwig helped on the twisties too, as slower vehicles moved over. I was really amazed at the awesomeness, stock + atlas40 ficm

Yep the 7.3 is great, the 6.0 is great when bulletproofed. I`ve driven 2 of the newer diesels 6.7L and was unimpressed! both felt like dogs. I swear they couldn`t get out of their own way! one was a 2012 and the other was the bosses new 2014. maybe with a 15k lb trailer hanging off the back they are good, but solo I`ll take my tuned V-10! and the bosses 2014 is averaging 16mpg to and from work, that is a 40 mile round trip commute that is mostly 50mph roads with very few stops! I can average 12.5 with my X on almost the same trip. I used to work near his house before I started at his shop that is 1.5 miles from my house.
