Car history for a 1953 NC vin number
I have a bill of sale from a for one of my 1953 Ford pick up. This vehicle was came from a metal crusher. I would like to find the history and see if I could find the original title, or be able to title this truck before beginning the build. I have the original vin plate inside the dash that matches the same number on the frame. NC vin # F10R3N25019 has only 11 characters & any webb search site wants 17 characters. Any clues or information on helping with the search would be appreciated. I know there are some former DMV members that might have some information to help me proceed. psmith1951

Is this the same truck you were trying to get a title for with the serial number drilled out of the frame?
All of this chasing your tail can be avoided by staying away from untitled vehicles. Otherwise, take your bill of sale and go to DMV and start jumping through their hoops. Taking short cuts and back door deals to obtain a questionable title usually winds up with No title and trouble with the law.
I don't know about NC but in most states if you buy a vehicle/frame from a scarp yard you can NEVER get a title for it.

Just because this was picked up at a scrap, salvage, or junk yard doesn't mean that isn't viable. The yard has to apply for a salvage or junk title which basically retires the serial number. Not all yard do this, especially if it was scrapped years ago. It is entirely possible that the title is still available, I'd go to a tag agent, give them the title number and they should be able to give you the information you desire, possibly the owners name, yes if there is still and active title, they still own the property even though it is in your possession, maybe you can get them to sign off.
Good Luck.

Thanks for all the info. The best information is for me to take to the tag office and see if they can run the history. I feel sure the person that sent this to the scrap yard is the titled person that could help me. The scrap yarn is very localized to my area. My job begins at 6:00 am to 6:30 pm Mon thru Friday. It does not leave much time to get to the tag office during their hours. I will take a day off soon to run this down. Sincerely, psmith1951

That's what I would do, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
