So since I did my oil change about 2000 miles ago or so it seems that in the last month it has gotten darker quicker? T6 5w40 is what i have in it. Not really concerned just an observation?
yeah--was kinda interesting that for the first good while it looked just like new--then just this month it seemed to turn. Heck I can't say that any oil in my gassers has stayed like new this long actually. It was just surprising it was like you flipped a switch and was "normal" color lol
makes it alot easier to see on the dip stick that's for sure.
You have roughly 3 quarts of old oil in system left when you change oil, so it darkens some instantly. But then it takes a while for it to get worse...
I agree with everything said above. The oil is doing it's job. Being the T6 is a synthetic, it is "supposed to" clean the engine's internals better than a conventional oil which would explain why it was darkening noticeably quicker. It may have just taken that period of time for the T6 to break down the sludge and deposits inside the engine. That being said, the fact that there is old residual oil left in the engine after draining and the fact that a diesel is going to darken oil faster than a gasser in most cases means you are good to go!
One thing I found was my oil stayed clean for a long
time. But they also had done an oil cooler. When
I did the change it got dirty a lot faster then before.
But I also think that all the hold-over oil had a lot
to do with that.
