So this weekend was the first camping trip i took my new to me F-150 on. I've only ever towed my Travel Trailer with my V10 Excursion so i was excited to see how the 150 handled it.

We loaded up and headed up the Glenn highway. In tow/haul mode and 6th gear locked out this thing is a pulling monster! tons of power and no issues even with the largest hills/mountains. dropped into 3rd on a few long pulls to maintain 70. The tow/haul mode works so nice on the down hill sections keeping me from having to use the brakes much..love that!!

The place we camped at was 120 miles from home, on Saturday i took a trip 85 miles north to Glennallen, AK "The Hub of Alaska" i filled up @ 4.41/G and on the 85 miles back to camp empty @ 70mph i got 16.5mpg pretty much dead on for my big ol 6.2L.

Overall i could not be more happy with the truck, had a great trip and good family time.

heading out,

I do miss my towing mirrors

Gas prices up there are a bit higher...

Beautiful country Russ, (truck too!!) Thanks for sharing. I know my 2011 HD towed very well for what it was. I can't say enough good about the 6.2L, shame they aren't keeping that option with the F150, potent combination, IMHO.

Very nice Russ, I'm really glad to hear how much you like the new truck. As I'm sure you've seen trucks have come a long way in ten years.

Hello Tom, so when might you be back in a truck? Any ideas on what you'll be looking to get?

Don't really know Mitch. It may be as soon as next August when my wife graduates and gets a job, but there's a chance I'll be leaving work and going back to school around then as well. My priorities are changing, and what I do now isn't what I want to do forever.

But if I do get a new truck it will probably be one of the new '15 F150s in some configuration. Depending on what I'll need it for I may even go for the little V6. We'll see.

Good deal, I would imagine your ready for the wife to graduate, and If y'all can manage it, I highly encourage you to go back to school. I wish I would have, but......

That little V6 seems impressive so far..

Tom, i can't wait to see what you go with next.

so today i rolled 24k miles on my way home from work, then gave her a much needed bath! the bugs were thick on the front. Then i put my '07 tassel in the mirror and filled her up.

I had the 6.2 catch me off guard today though, typically i turn off the TC when i get in and go. i was making a left turn onto a main road and mashed the gas...well the rear end lit up and went totally sideways on me, the RSC kicked in and shut me down enough to get in a straight line...whew maybe i should just leave it in AWD all the time haha

Russ,
To go along with the bug issue, I have found some stuff, Poor Boy's World "Bug Squash", that crap works really well, of course not as good as they claim, but very impressive. Won't be too much longer, we'll be dealing with the love bug menace down here, I'll really get to test it then.

little Saturday drive today out to Girdwood, she pulled some awesome MPG between 50-60 mph for the last bit before i got off the highway it was showing 17.5 MPG. I filled up for fun at 103 miles with 35 of that being stop and go in town, rest highway netted 15.8 MPG. i'd love to see what i could pull on a straight highway tank.

This was kind of funny, Friday morning another '11 Lairat Limited was behind me for about 2 miles. Twins!

Lookin Good Russ, you seem to be getting real good MPG's, I never got that average, I kept my foot in it though...., so not the trucks fault.

That's great to hear Russ. Kind of interesting...your fuel economy isn't far from what my truck would have done in the same circumstances.
