The headliner in my 79 F250 custom had seen better days and was falling apart so I took it out. Anyone ever make their own headliner? What material did you use? Did you cover it with anything? I am thinking of finding something to use as the base and then covering it with amp tolex. I play guitar and have re covered numerous amps with tolex. It is pretty simple to work with and doesn't cost much.
Also, the middle brace is bent down. I noticed that there was a dip in my headliner in the middle. I don't recall this. I thought they were pretty much straight across the top so I am thinking I need to bend that brace up towards the roof to straighten in out.
Yep! and re-did my door panels; it's retardedly easy. 1.5yds whatever fabric you want (that WON'T sun-FADE), a good upholstry spray-adhesive or contact cement; cut to shape, apply adhesive, roll on fabric, let dry, reinstall on truck. I did my doors and headliner in RealtreeAP.

Where's that thread about using the US flag as a headliner? That turned into a pretty big p*ssing contest
If you've been in the military, or served as an Honor Guardsman in the military (go FAR deeper into customs/courtesys, proper display, folding etc...) you'd be pretty irritated to see the flag as a headliner; but, it's your right as an american. See below: §176. Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America
(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free.
(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

fmc400, that was in NO way directed towards you, I read that post you're referring to and wasn't a fan of the idea of using it as a headliner. [500 pushups per infraction of the flag drives stuff like that into your head pretty quick] :P
I bought a sheet of 3/16" hardboard at the local lumberyard. Put the old headliner over it and traced out the pattern. Cut with a jigsaw then went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought a piece of vinyl that was a close color match to my interior. I used spray adhesive to glue the vinyl to the hardboard and installed back in my truck. The most expensive part was the vinyl, but it was still done for about 40 bucks and looked better that the old cardboard headliner.
