Do you have a way to bypass the solenoid and crank the engine. make a short video or post some pics of what we're dealing with. Can we post video in the forums?
Take care.

I guess I could take the wire off the distributor but afraid it could contribute to flooding the cylinders. I post off of my iPhone and have tried to post a pic before so wouldn't know how to post a video. Let me see on that.

I wouldn't do it that way. Just jumper the starter solenoid. No ignition events or spark will occur the engine will just crank not fire. Google it....this is something you need to know for fuel pressure tests and cranking compression. You really don't want to pull the center coil wire. That's is hard on the primary ignition components. Did you get the fuel pressure tester?

Have you hosed it down with carb cleaner? I'm running out if ideas of what else it could be honestly.....wait, i just got an idea. But i need to google something.

BTW does anyone know how to start a new thread? I feel like a total idiot that I haven't figured this out yet.

Hey
I rebuilt the carb.
and have rebuilt 10 or more successfully before, all different types.
to specifications.have taken apart 3 or 4 times to check and recheck everything.
swapped floats, new needle and seat new gas filter and sealed off
every i mean every vacuum connection ex dist.
all emissions removed or blocked.
carb base gaskets.
carb tight on manifold. And carb body screws

I really thought it was the fuel pump from other posts.
original pump.

????.

We did not set the float because it seemed to be in good position. New needle and seat. Reinstalled and now still getting way too much fuel. It's spitting it out of the tube on the top of the carb while I pump the throttle to get the truck to start. Took plugs out and cleaned them and cleared cylinders.
When I pinch off the fuel line the truck runs decent. I drove it around the yard like that.
Can you guys tell me what to try next? I am a paycheck away from chunking the carb and getting a reman for $200 off rock auto. I don't want this thing to wash my rings out.
hi
what do you mean "when I pinch off the fuel line" ?
fuel supply line ?

ok
this is what happens to me.
I crank the engine using a remote starter key on.
im running fuel from a gas can to ensure good gas.
( stuff from the tank was yellow )
it will start and run if I keep the rpms up, for a min or two then it dies.
even if I keep the throttle open.
next it blows fuel vapor and drops out of the carb.
including onto the entire height of my windshield and apx 24" wide.

I have removed the top of the carb w/o taking it off the engine and the fuel bowl level is apx. half or just below.
I even took my spare float and put it there to see what the level is with it in there.
looked ok to me.

idle screw has no effect.
will not idle at all.
needle and seat new and clear.
my carb is a 79 yfa and my ign is dirt cheap HEI.

Let us know how it turns out.
I have a mechanical pump.
no return line.

The exact same scenario happened to me, except the fuel never hit my windshield. The hood was in the way.

All that extra fuel is making it run really rich. One more time, where exactly is the gas coming out of?

roadrash, I'm stumped. You said you had a 2bbl right? What happens if you put that on? Just curious. This guy says he got a new repro carb and it was still erupting.

Yea cutting fuel supply, by which I determined it was receiving far too much fuel. Sounds like we have a very similar issue

Click on the 1980-1986 Bullnose F100, F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks forum. About midway of the page, there is a blue colored "button" for New Threads.
