First question is how much oil did you put in it and did you notice anything in the oil filter housing when you pulled the filter off. Ther is a bypass valve in there that can fall out allowing all your oil to drain back to the pan

would the bypass valve be oblivious if I pulled the filter off to look? did not see anything when filter was off. 3 1/2 gallons of rotella almost full. This bypass valve sounds likely. is it something I can buy at a parts store?

It the valve a little black fella that fits in the small hole to the side? Saw that in a picture I googled. That definitely was not there when I put the new filter on

Did you search your drain bucket for it?

Does the dash oil "gauge" respond after cranking for several seconds?

And of course the basics:
* WTS light?
* Tach moving while cranking?
* Any smoke from the exhaust?

checked oil pressure gauge while cranking and no pressure. poured 3 gal of old oil back out and cant find old valve. Not sitting in old filter either. $380 for whole new unit from ford. they dont just sell the valve. Is there a retainer clip or something to keep that valve in from falling out. Does not seem like a very good design to me if it doesn't.

Yeah if you are working on your 94 in your sig, then you have the old style that was just pressed in. The new style has a c clip. Riff Raff sells the newer style oil cooler end.

Thanks for the link. That is the route I will go. The Ford dealer is saying that part is no longer available.

My issue is even with a new oil change there is enough oil in the resivour up top to fire it up on.it won't run long but I would think it would fire. I'm not saying the valve isn't an issue but I'm not sold on it being the whole issue.

That's a good point. Did it start on the first try.

WTS light comes on, tach does move when cranking. did smell fuel when I cranked at first but not now. I will get the updated oil filter mount that has the bypass valve that is held in with the c clip. My guess is that this also acts as a check valve to keep pressure or at least a oil pre charge on the injectors so they will fire. Truck started and ran fine. All I did was change the oil so I just cant see it being anything else.

The "recharge" is in the hpop resivour.not anything to do with oil filter other than it is filled from lpop.
Even with no lube from the low pressure system the engine will start.
If you check the hop res and if it is low manually fill it. It should start and run for a period.
Also.check system voltage.if it drops below 10.5 during cranking it won't fire the injectors due to low voltage at the idm.
Buy the filter head but I'm not sold on that being anything but a waste of time and money.
