I'm running a stock 2008 6.4L F-350. I have 41xxx miles on it, very gently used. Last week I got the drain water separator for the very first time. Yesterday on I-40 I got it again. I had been getting less than 9mpg by the computer and then used 2 qts of Diesel Clean detergent additive on 2 separate tanks of diesel, immediate increase in mpg to about 13. I have some hypotheses I'd like the consensus on: 1) Is it possible the water has been in there all along and the treatment is de-mulsifying it? 2) Is it more likely that there is water contamination in the fuel I am buying (mostly Exxon, BP, or Love's)? 3) Is it a result of the relative humidity and I need a new fuel tank cap? 4) Is it just dumb luck it finally happened now and I should plan on frequently getting under the truck and draining it? 5) What is the general consensus on fuel treatments in general, Diesel Kleen in particular, or Bell http://www.bellperformance.com/about...ditive-experts ?
