Bad engine rattle, smoke and loss of power

Just dropped a 300 in my truck a couple of weeks ago. It had a light rattle in it and smoked a little but I figured it was just because it had sat. Now the rattle has gotten extremely bad and it sounds like the valves. Almost sounds like there hitting the cover. It now smokes worse. It doesn't smell like oil it smells like gas and it has bad power loss all of a sudden. I'm thinking valves arent seating but idk any help would be greatly appreciated.

A bit of diagnosis on your part or by a mechanic is in order. Compression check, and vacuum check come to mind to start with.

"...it smells like gas..." That can have a number of sources. One to consider and which gets overlooked is the fuel pump. They can go bad without any visible indication but might be pumping gas into the crankcase which dilutes the oil which adversely impacts the oiling system resulting in a rebuild time-out for the engine.

Had a buddy come over. The rattle turned out to be a really fast backpop from the carb due to timing. The carb is also in need of rebuilding but now the engine has blow by all of a sudden

Make sure the PCV valve is working properly .. The motor has positive crankcase pressure and the only way it's re-leaved is through the PCV valve .. Also as suggested from Hart3 if you have fuel in the oil it's going to wash the cylinder walls making the rings less effective .. If these conditions do exist and are left unaddressed you will be having gasket and seal issues next ..
