Hit a bump, lose accelerator +CEL on

What would cause me to lose accelerator pedal function after hitting a bump? The engine remains on, the CEL comes on and after a few seconds or shifting into neutral and back into drive I regain the accelerator again and the CEL goes out

The truck shows no codes. It is if some connection makes/breaks intermittently when I hit a rough pavement. Also, she sometimes won't shift in reverse. Could it be related?

Since throttle control is "fly by wire" or electrical, it's an intermittent wire, throttle position sensor or some other associated electrical issue, most likely. Good luck finding it.

Is your truck an automatic?

What tool are you using to pull the codes, many parts store readers will not pull codes on the enhanced powertrain or the transmission,

Could be easy to find still, I would want to check the wiring for the O/D button in the steering column.

WoodNThings O/D Wire Chafe repair PDF

I would check the wiring going over the driver side valve cover for possible chaffing also.

Tranny is auto, the mechanic has several code tools, not sure which one he is using.

He called a buddy at the local Ford dealership and he said it was symptom of a bad pedal switch

Thanks for the chaff repair pdf, reading it now.

Looking at the O/D wire chafe pdf, I see that fuse #45 for the accelerator pedal position sensor is on the same "buss bar" as the fog lights. Those fog lights work when they want to.

I wonder if the central junction box may also be the culprit?!

These are just some possibilities and known chafe points for similar issues. As you can tell from the schematic, that fuse controls many things, and with the other issue you are having, you might want to investigate the fuse box for possible corrosion or loose fuse clips.

We had the fuse box apart a couple of weeks ago to fix a crushed connector on fuse #11. The rest looked good and was put back together carefully. Not sure yet why the fog light gets juice sometimes.

I spoke to the mechanic and he assures me that the diagnostics point to the pedal, so I will be ordering a new one today.

He also said that the computer needs a firmware update. Updates make me nervous....

Problem started back up. Noticed a clear grease in and around the pedal plug/connector. I disconnected the plug, cleaned with alcohol and applied dielectric grease. Problem gone!

Look more into the O/D wire chafing... The shifting gears and having it start working again points to that issue... Have had that before, wire shorted in shift column disabled the go pedal....

Ok, thanks. Will keep this in mind if it starts acting up again.

under the brake master cylinder on the inner fender housing is a junction for wires and sometimes the wires rubbing on the fender well causes them to wear through ,it can be best seen from underneath looking up past the oil filter with a flashlight
