2008 F350 Muffler only replacement
Hi Forum, 2008 F350 SD Supercab w/8'bed and 5.4l gasser.
The only part of my exhaust system that is failing is the OEM muffler (Part#: 5230) . There are holes starting to form where the tail pipe comes out.
Can anyone direct me as to ordering the correct replacement in a flowmaster? I see a Flowmaster 50 series..part #853558 for $215.
Also how difficult is it to replace? Can I just cut the old one out and slide the new one into place? Clamp new muffler in?
Thanks for any help or direction.

Have you replaced this yet? I went with the 3" Flowmaster 50 series delta flow. It's not loud. but it changes the tone of the exhaust. It was half the price of the one you're listing. It's not as simple as just clamping in the new muffler. I added a couple of short pieces of exhaust pipe on either side of the muffler. The one on the back side needs to be welded because the tailpipe starts turning as soon as it exits the muffler, making it so you can't clamp to it. I have pics if you need them. This is on an 06 Superdirty

OK here's my muffler in place. I used a Flowmaster 50 series deltaflow 943053. That's 3" offset/offset. You can't really tell from the pic, but the tailpipe is really close to the bed. If I were to buy it again I would get the offset inlet and center outlet. I would get the 843051 stainless. It's 15% off with free shipping online at autozone. You'll need a couple of extra pieces of pipe too. The front one is easy, I slid it on and welded it. I've got an aftermarket tailpipe and that's why mine has all those clamps on the back. The muffler and tailpipe were the same size and I needed a piece to go in the muffler and a coupler too. I could have just welded it but the tailpipe is kind of cheap and I'm not sure how long it will last. If you have the stock tailpipe then you'll want to weld a short piece to it instead of what I did because the way the pipe bends sharply as it exits the stock muffler. You'll never be able to get it clamped correctly. To get the u bolts to clamp down on the Flowmasters, I always cut a slot about an 1 1/2" on the inlet and outlet pipes with a sawzall. Hope this helps
