Idaho diesel smog..

Anybody in Caldwell have any issues with smog testing there IDI? Reason why I ask is I'm thinking about moving closer to my family that live in Caldwell... well in California my 85 is exempt from smog or any inspection, the only thing that worries me is I have a haze of blue/gray most of the time at idle. I don't know if it'll pass like that, and yes I'd have to turn down my fuel (its up 3 flats for the turbo) when its snapped reved I get slight black with more blue than anything, does dissipate within a few seconds though.. my rings are a little worn.. so just was was curious more than anything, any information would be helpful. Thanks guys

I know in Twin Falls they don't have diesel smog testing. I'm not sure about Caldwell though. I kind of doubt they do have testing for that year though. Cali doesn't do any diesel before 98 and Idaho is less strict.

It said 81-97 was a snap acceleration.. .meaning reved 3 times while checking for smoke, just like here in CA on 97 and up trucks.

Vehicles Requiring Emissions Testing Idaho

Model Year 1981-1995 gas-powered vehicles, using the TSI method

Model year 1996 and newer vehicles more than five years old, using the OBDII method

Model year 1981-1997 diesel-powered vehicles, using the snap acceleration method

Model year 1998 and newer diesel vehicles more than five years old, using the OBD method

Wow, Idaho makes you smog a 1980's Diesel? that's crazy. That's even worse than California emissions testing. At least in California, anything before 1998 is exempt.

I know that's what I was saying. I should probably just keep my truck registered here in California.. No smog, that's why I bought the thing last year lol because I got tired of paying the ridiculous fees. And to top it off I am a smog technician in California,

As far as I know, it's only one county in Idaho which does it - ada county(i.e. Boise).
Up here in sandpoint, there's no smogging or anything. As long as your VIN plate matches your title, that's all that matters, if you're bringing it in from out of state.

They just started, like 2-3 years ago in Canyon County. My 92 passed with a 7 with a limit of 40. 250+ on stock IP / injectors and turned up 2 flats. Youll pass, they have the limit so high you almost cant fail unless its pretty much blown up. 88 was 5 /40 bone stock 180k on stock fuel system.

I had to test my 86 a couple years ago with 200k on it, passed with no issues other than blowing the probe out of the pipe the first time and getting an ultra clean reading. My friend has it now and said it still passes just fine. The test is only required every two years and as stated, is pretty easy to pass. For some strange reason I have not been called upon to test my 93 since I purchased it 5 years ago(knock on wood).

As said above, it's just the area around Boise. I've lived in Pocatello and now Coeur d' Alene (as well as CA) and have never had to smog my IDI, or any other vehicle.

Yea, anything less than 30 years old. But the older diesel stuff is so easy they may as well not even test em. At least its only 10-15 bucks in canyon county.

Thank you guys for all the encouraging replies lol, I will give it a shot. Won't be anytime soon though probably within the next 6 months I would say. If I remember to at the time I will update this thread with how it goes, like I said the only thing that concerns me is I do have the light blue and gray haze at idle & super light haze at 2500rpm..
