1977 F100 "Contempo"?
Hi,
New member here from Salem, Oregon. I Picked up kind of an oddball last weekend. It's a 1977 F100, 351M, Automatic 2wd Flareside. I say oddball, because it has this really funky paint/decal scheme and it says "Contempo" on the tailgate and front fenders. Google search only really came back with some Contempo conversion vans, but no trucks. Anyone seen or heard of these before? Any info? I have pictures of it in my gallery.
Thanks in advance,
Jesse

I took a look at this truck a couple weeks ago. I had never heard of the 'Contempo' version either and, like you, found nothing on it in any of the web searches I made. If I didn't already have two projects going, I'd have been more serious about it. What are your plans for it?
And welcome to the forum. I'm just down the valley from you so if I can be of any help let me know.

As for your "Contempo" truck. It could've been something a local dealer or group of dealers did as a promotion.
It's not uncommon for dealers to order a group of trucks with certain options, then add some stripes or other "custom" touches and offer them as "special editions".
It was done back then, it's still done today.
You may be able to find more info on the truck by looking up the history of the original selling dealer.
You could also get a "Marti report" from Kevin Marti http://www.martiauto.com/ this would let you know how the truck was equipped when it left the factory. It'll also tell you who the selling dealer was.

Thanks for the replies. 1Asterisk, I am happy to see that you looked at this one too, good to find other enthusiasts around locally. mikeo0o0o0, I looked at that website, and am impressed on how much info they can provide on a specific vehicle. I think that you are right, about it being a dealer installed package. I also know that in the seventies, there were a lot of "custom shops" doing interesting things on new vehicles. Most of these are probably long gone out of business.
Current plans for the truck? As of right now, just cleaning the years of funk off of it and from inside of it. Getting the lights working, etc. Just get it roadworthy for now. Might just leave it as is for a while. It's kind of cool.
Take care,
Jesse
