Relocate Battery 54

I know it`s been done a bunch but I can`t find a site for tips on location and problems I may run in to. Was considering moving it to the right inner fender toward the front. Any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used a plastic tray from the wrecking yard, not sure what make model, and mounted on the drivers side. It's a snug fit with the stay rod int he way and took some trial and error fitment.

i used a battery tray for an early mustang, i think a 1970. it fit pretty well on the pass inner fender. i used a mazda miata battery to keep the weight down and it fit better. i think the tray was like $20 from mustangs unlimited.

If you need to buy a new battery as well, you might consider buying two 6V Optima batteries and wiring them in series. They could then be mounted behind or under seat or even under the running board. (they can be mounted in any position, even upside down.)

Is the battery box cut into the inner fender, did he have to brace the inner fender to support the extra weight ?

When I first saw this post earlier in the month I remembered there used to be an aftermarket fiberglass inner fender with a built-in battery box. I tried to find an old picture but couldn't. I last saw one in the "So-Cal Pickups" catalog, years ago. I thought I had an old copy but couldn't find it. They've been out of business for some time.

Then I came across this today on eBay. I don't know it's one of the inner fenders I'm talking about, but it looks like one.

Yep, nothing fancy just a metal box welded into the inner fender.

I might add that my buddy who owns the truck in the picture I posted is a sheetmetal worker. He bent up a piece of 16 ga to make the box for his battery and then had the lid chromed.

That`s what I was looking for. Wasn`t sure if I need to put some bracing in to support the extra wait on the fender. I have the box built , getting ready to cut it in the fender. Thanks guys Also noticed the rods running from the fire wall to the radiator support are not there, what does it affect when that are removed ?

The truck in the pictures is a panel mounted on a modified Chevy frame. You will need to keep the rods to keep your front sheet metal aligned properly.

Make sure you have clearance for your front tire before you finish weld the box.
