Randy, I'm sure like the rest of Ford's great ones, it was because of stupid emissions crap. I love this little engine. The only time I'm wanting more out of it, is when I want to get up to speed a bit quicker. Other than that, it's all I really need! And mine will break 140K by the end of summer! Body is in pretty nasty shape though....

Storms moved out now.. No hail, just a hard rain tapering off to sunset..
Jake (my son's name is Jake), I've always thought that someone at Ford should have got their *** kicked for taking the 300 inline 6 out of production. My opinion is that it was one of the top 5 engines ever produced by the big three for trucks..

I used to tow my 69 Corvette on the trailer (about 7,000# altogether) all over the place and some trips were over a thousand miles. With the trailer on the back it would get about 12 MPG and without the trailer it got 18.5. I loved that truck and regret having sold it.. I traded it on 3/4 ton Chebby that was not any better at towing but had an automatic that my wife needed.
I picked up a couple MPG by putting highway tread radials on it and then I removed the engine driven fan and installed dual electric fans. At one point I even put water injection on it so I could crank up the timing. It was not the success I had hoped for..
If I had a truck like yours, I would Keep the driveline and put in into a late model body/chassis..

The last one I had was in a 1981 F150 4x4 with a creeper gear 4 speed.
