Our V10 still gets me around 10-11. But I have traffic and California gasohol. When I can get non-alcoholic gas the numbers improve. Long trips out of California I have gotten 13-14, which is a huge improvement.

California GAS is running about 3.40 a gallon right now and diesel is running about 2.50. CA Runs a special blend not used anywhere else. I think this is the biggest problem for our V10 with Mileage.
I've had the pleasure of pulling with a V10 in 49 states, 6 provinces and Mexico and the gas from one area to the next makes a big difference in mileage and performance. The worst are California, Alaska, Florida with all the east and west coast states following close behind. It's worse the closer you get to heavily populated areas, most of the states in between are a lot better but you can still get some low quality fuel. The 6.2 that I have now does that same thing when it comes to mileage but the way it runs doesn't change as much as the V10 did.

If your comparing numbers it's better to compare them to someone in your area.

So I have to ask...what state is missing from your list?

Edit: As soon as I hit submit it dawned on me you probably haven't towed with that vehicle in Hawaii. NVM on my ignorant question

Been to Hawaii but it would have been to expensive to get the rig there I would go back but the 8 hour flight is more than I can take, the beer gets warm

I have only put about 500 miles on since I went from a 2 1/2" leveling kit to a 6" suspension lift but I am running the same tires. There appears to be no real difference in MPGs with the two setups. Towing a 7500 pound trailer and the truck loaded to within just a few hundred pounds of the 9800 lbs. GVWR I get 6-7 MPG. It doesn't matter if I am pulling an 11,000 foot pass in Colorado or heading to the beach here in San Diego. Over any significant distance, it will be somewhere in the 6-7 range. On flat roads I usually tow around 60 MPH and never exceed 65. Unloaded, I have discovered that I can dramatically impact my fuel economy (or lack thereof!) with my driving style. Cruising around town, I get 7-8. My commute to work is 25 mostly freeway miles. Once a week, I take the truck. Recently, I have been closely watching the real time MPG and trip MPG numbers on my Scan Gauge II which I have found to be fairly accurate. Paying no particular attention I will get 10 MPG. If I set the cruise control at 60 on the freeway portion and use an accelerate and coast driving style on the surface streets I have achieved 13 MPG for that 25 mile stretch. Keep in mind that this is with 4:88 gears on 35" tires using the 5Star custom performance/tow tune.

I have 2009 v10, and when it was new I thought that I was getting 14 mpg (but maybe my memory isn't what it used to be) Lately, on a trip out to CO, towing our 5,500#
RV I got 8 mpg. Once there (Estes Park) driving around w/o RV got it up to 12-12.5 mpg.
Coming back home back to the 8 mpg. I put a AIRaid CAI and Flowmaster exhaust hoping for more, but doesn't seem to have done much. I had the fuel system cleaned. It does sit alot (20m miles on the odometer) as it is mainly for towing our RV and we're not retired yet. Would the 5 star tuning help, or am I fighting a losing battle?

You stock air intake is more than likely better than that Air raid CAI, those things usually rob power not add it.

MPG

I would say you getting better then millage then our V10. I get 7 towing, 10 driving empty. A lot depends on the way you drive and the truck. I have a Crew Cab Long Bed 2009 4x4, auto ,King Ranch.

My uncle gets 14 mpg, but his is a manual, standard cab long bed 4x4.

So if you find the magic answer let me know.

Yeah I do tend to push it, 70-75 mph, for the most part. If I kept @ 60 mph it would probably help! But one reason I went to the AiRaid and Flowmaster was because I thought that the mileage was slipping. I could be imagining things. I still have the stock air filter
set-up and could put it back on and see if there is any difference. I'd spend the $$ for the
tuner w/5 star if I could get 2-3 mpg out of it.

My '05 2V V-10 4R100 EX 4x4 is lifted 4" and runs true 35" tires (305/70R18E Dura grapplers) spun by 4.88 gears for an effective ratio of 4.39. It also has a set of Banks headers and their Y-pipe with the balance of the exhaust still factory stock. Custom 5Star tunes were written with the above mods taken into consideration.
Within the past 3 weeks I have made various long-ish trips with it in different configurations. All three trips saw very good traffic conditions, lucky me!
Solo from Philly to Savannah 725 miles with the cruise set at or about 73 MPH as much as possible, 12.75 MPG with the 87 Octane Economy tune.
Savannah back to Philly towing a 1700lb car on a UHual tow dolly, same 725 miles with the cruise set at or about 63 MPH as much as possible, 12.25 MPG with the 87 Octane Economy tune.
Delaware OH to Philly 483 miles towing our 11,000lb TT running between 62 and 68 MPH without cruise control, 8.75 MPG with the 87 Octane Performance tune.
The truck is past due for it's 100k service at 106,500 miles currently, I bought it at 65,000 miles and as far as I know it's still on the factory plugs. They, along with the boots will be getting changed out along with all fluids before the next long tow in the Spring. Might make a couple short hops before Winter. This EX is our tow rig and sees very little unloaded miles and sleeps all Winter to keep it salt free.

I get 14mpg with my all factory 2005 V10 "EX" daily driving, and 7-9 towing 10k.
Not sure if that's good, or bad, but it is consistent with others I see on here.

Just towed to Indiana from Ohio the other day pulling an empty dual axle open air car hauler.

Went about 65-60 MPH on the way there, got 11.7 MPG. On the way back, with just a replacement short bed strapped to the trailer, doing about 60 MPH, I got 11.6.

Just went from far north Missouri to Rio Grande Valley in Texas, about as far south as you can go. 1138 miles one way, tried to stay at 62 to 65 mph , averaged 7.45 mpg. Highest 9.99, lowest 6.08. 2001 CC V 10, no tweaking, pulling 33' TT. Don't have a scale weight but lists 9700 lbs.
