Report Card - Oil Analysis Came Back

I got my latest oil report back. You can see its been a while since my last report. I was running Mobil 1 synthetic TDT. I did change it at 15,000 miles, even though the report says it was good. According to Blackstone the oil shows wear consistent with oil 1/3 of the age!

Thats a good sample. Ive seen similar results as well. Ive been running anywhere from 12-15k on my past few oil changes, each time they suggest going further. Maybe its just the way i was brought up but that just doesnt seem natural to me and ive resisted going further than 15k. This past time, not by choice but just by not having available time i ran it up to 17k and just sent sample off this week. Awaiting results......

Its not just you. Everyone feels that way. Fortunately modern engine oil is leaps and bounds ahead of the old straight we it oil back in the day, for reasons other than just multiweight. There is a lot of chemistry that goes into oil these days.

How about the additive package that comes with the oil. For instance, the anti-foaming additive which has been discussed on this site. Supposedly it enables the injectors to operate efficiently with less noise. Does the oil testing tell you how the additives compare to what was originally in the oil? If not what do you do? Larry

Used oil analysis (UOA) will show you the additives in the oil, including TBN if you choose. To compare to new oil, find a virgin oil analysis (VOA) online. Bobistheoilguy.com is a great website to learn about all of your oil needs. I have quite a few VOAs stored somewhere....

Dang. Them digits have me contemplating switching to mobile 1 tdt over the t6 when the "new" motor goes in. Im diggin the sound of 15k changes.

My last analysis for motorbug was over double what you had for iron.
On only 5k on the oil...
