I've only noticed this when I'm towing heavy loads out of our valley. Once with a mid size trac hoe ona low-boy, and today with two loads of logs on a low-boy. I got to the top of the mountain with a temp reading 2/3 scale and noticed the smell of diesel oil, and some smoke. A mile up the highway I stopped to check further and the was no smell or smoke. Any idea what gives, oil level is full...just like when I changed it last, no signs of a leak or consumption. ?????

Did you check the leak off tees on the top of the injectors, if the O rings are shot they will leak on the engine and you will get smoke,
when the engines is hot it will dry off the diesel fuel and you wont see the leaks.

I am asuming by "diesel oil" you mean "fuel" ??

Our VFD uses a mix of used diesel oil and diesel fuel to start controlled burns and that's why I smelled it.
