North Dakota F-3 Time Machine Find

I'm helping 1952henry show off his new find. Blows my mind that trucks don't rot to their bones in that environment. He'll be along to tell the story, I'm helping with the pictures. Stu

A stupid question. Someone needs to educate the ignorant (me) What is that in the 4th pic with the hydraulic hoses? Does this have a tilt bed?--only thing I can think of

Yes to the tilt bed. What you see is a belt-driven pump that has a mechanical clutch, like an old PTO winch. On the firewall is a small tank. I plan to purchase the pickup for the engine, front bumper, and other odds n ends. My car pool buddy wants the cab for his father's F1 he wants to redo. The owner is a just-retired cat-skinner at the mine.

The odometer shows 25,000 miles. It was used to haul coal for his shop's stoker furnace and dirt. He blew the rearend out a couple years ago when he put her in low with a couple tons of coal on board. Only thing on the engine I can see that's been touched is the after-market carburetor, it doesn't have 7RT on the bowl.

It's seems a shame to part out a truck that looks that good!

I said the same texting back and forth. I have front fender envy, I know that. Stu

That is one clean truck! I like the signal lights mounted on the hood, keeps them out of the way when working in the engine bay

Fellow has some at his dad's he might cut the flatheads out of. Couldn't be sure of the years, but thought that one was a '50. When I stop again, I'm going to ask him to save some stuff if it's usable. The spare tire in the bed I found interesting. 'Tis a 17", but looks to have a split ring on it.

The turn signals are rounded in the back. In addition to the west coast mirror on the driver's door, there are two on the floor boards that are similar. It has a dome light in the tool tray that I believe to be original. It also has the Magic Air heater with the elusive embossed fan motor cover, complete with tabs.

You will probably see the below wheel having a Firestone "AR" three piece outer rim. They have a deep side ring, looks similar to a WM but isn't, and a small locking ring that holds the assembly together. It's the same rim design that's common on F-7/8s. It will have hub cap clips. That spare wheel probably won't fit over the truck's stock rear hub. But didn't you say the p.o. granaded the original Timken overloading it? Maybe he swapped in a Chevy/GMC axle which also gave that spare wheel--and maybe its others too. They will fit on an F-2/3 front axle. I have one I use on parts trucks. Stu

I'll have to look for clips. He didn't swap rearends. Just parked it after the rear quit. The rivets on the ring gear let loose, so he removed it. He started using a pickup trailer. Might be tempted to use the frame/box/hoist as a trailer...A starter motor or my old one lung Wisconsin would turn the pump.

You may also see this instead of the cross section above. There is an old style AR, the above, and a new style AR, below. Stu

That is probably the nicest truck I have seen rescued on here and I am amazed you are going to part it out. It seems a fantastic case for just get it running and enjoy it and preserve a great survivor.

Nice find.
If the running boards, box and tailgate need a new home let me know,
